Match Report AA1 v Lokomotiv Cove 29/04/12

Last years beaten grand finalists Lokomotive Cove came to the ‘House of Paine’ on Sunday looking for some revenge. However, a strong start from Barnstoneworth saw them completely pinned back for the first 20 mins. After throwing his toys out the pram last week George Michael Michael was handed his first start of the season as Eddie Sweeney relaxed his “it’s my ball and you cannae play” mentality. Stunned by the success of Mikey’s bold approach Hairy John adopted the same tactics in the pub afterwards, but the 86 year old he was taking a run at, only had eyes for the bingo machine!.

Had it been a boxing match this game would have been stopped early on, such was the relentless pressure from our boys with “the stallion” going close to giving us the lead. Typically however we were hit with a sucker punch as Lokomotive went 1-0 up, a long ball launched into the box wasn’t dealt with and their player was allowed too much time to watch the ball drop and hook it into the bottom corner.

The boys picked themselves up and went at it again. Lynchy was looking particularly dangerous and was having his best game of the season before being hooked just before half time for no other reason than he’s just a bit of a fud.

The 2nd half was much the same, Barnstoneworth with plenty of possession but unable to score until 20 mins to go when Lynchy fired in a free kick from distance. We went in search of the winner but were unable to find the net again and the game finished 1-1. Definitely 2 points dropped rather than 1 gained. Overall a good performance from the boys with Downer and Simba at a combined age of 364 still showing the young lads how it’s done. But for the 2nd week in a row our inability to take our chances has cost us points.

The match was also soured when Chris Moore suffered what looked to be ligament damage round the ankle and could be out for a few months. Let’s all wish him a speedy return.
