Barney make light work of Dunbar Rovers

Barnstoneworth United AA2 v Dunbar Rovers

Following on the back of a solid defensive display and the first point of the season against Maccabi, Barny headed off to the much loved Reg Bartley Oval. To quote  Ben “I’d rather play at the reg every Sunday than that dump Old Trafford”.

The game started off frantic and scrappy. Dunbar initially played the better football and used the right flank to try to get at the Barny back four who kept a solid line and battled to keep Dunbar’s version of Peter Crouch quiet. Once the game settled down after 20/25 Barny grew into the game and started to link up more with Andy and Stevie getting some joy down the flanks. Barny had a few chances to nick the lead but the chances were only half and snatched at with the forwards too keen to get a first win under the belt. The midfield had a battle on their hands but also squandered possession a few too many times to really get at the Dunbar back line.

After a few inspirational words at half time from Billy and Nick the lads started the second half much better. Passing and the tempo improved. Andy proved a menace down the left flank for most of the half, smashing in a wonder volley from 30 yards. Centre Midfield dominated more as the half grew allowing for some great crosses from Stevie down the right without any clinical touch at the end. After a loose ball being played out wide to Ryan, he lofted a ball into the box and Paul rose like fish swimming up river to head in past the oncoming keeper. There was a bit of DejaVu later with Andy again smashing in from 30 yards with the keeper helpless.

Overall, a solid battling performance to build on and some moments of quality finishing. Onwards and upwards for the AA2’s next week!
