AA4 Match Report v QP Lions (10/04/11)
/The AA4s were hoping their vociferous home fans would see them take their first home win of the season against Lions. With Paul away there was no pre-match chalkboard, and instead Niall took his place in the technical area.
Barnstoneworth dominated the early proceedings. An excellent ball from Alex in centre midfield saw Ed clear through; his driven shot left the keeper well beaten, only to see the ball come back off the far post. Nonetheless with Ed and Junior looking dangerous and some excellent balls being played out of midfield it seemed only a matter of time before the first goal came.
Barnstoneworth failed to capitalise on their early dominance though and Lions started coming into the game. There were a few more chances each way, but it remained scoreless at half time. Barnstoneworth probably unlucky not to be ahead but with all to play for in the second half.
After a half time talk from Niall, Barnstoneworth started the second half decidedly off the pace. Ten minutes in and a Lions went a goal up. A ball sent in from left managed to find its way across the box where it was put in at the back post by the waiting Lions striker. 1-0 to Lions.
Barnstoneworth were still struggling to get into action as the second half wore on. The defence did well to keep a one goal deficit in the face of some dangerous Lions attacks.
With only a few minutes remaining on the clock, Barnstoneworth had a final chance with a free kick 35 yards out on the left. Wynton swung it into the box, the Lions defence scuffed the clearance and Steve was first on the loose ball, putting it home through the keepers legs. There was barely time for the restart before the final whistle. Full time, 1-1.
A fair result overall. The AA4s still looking for their first win of the season but leaving their unbeaten streak intact.
