Match Report AA2 v Redfern 12/04/15

After a disastrous start last week against Coogee the AA2`s turned up hoping for a much better performance and to finally register some points.

After 7 minutes of a bright opening the game was turned on its head when newly appointed manager Palmer selflessly threw himself into a challenge, tackling the opposing striker and had to retire hurt for the rest of the game.

With 80 minutes to play it was backs to the wall and everyone had to dig deep none more so than the youthful Daz who in a 10 minute spell pulled off 6 FIFA esq saves. On 20 minutes Redfern did make the break through when Mark Donegan (suffering from tourettes) lashed out wildly while trying to communicate with a fan and threw the Raiders striker over with a hip toss conceding a penalty. Daz was unlucky not to get more on it but Bufc went in at the break 1-0 down.

The second half started brightly and with captain fantastic Thompson and his bearded warrior by his side BUFC looked unbreakable at the back and good going forward. Marc O’Neil on his home debut finally made the breakthrough with a Tony Yeboah style volley that went crashing in off the bar.

At 1-1 BUFC looked like they would go on to win especially when the the mercurial Whelan (not wearing his villa shirt) curled an inch perfect free kick to the inside of the square posts only for it to roll across the line.
Barney pushed on for the win but after playing so long with 10 men finally got caught out with a goal that was at least 5 yards offside. Raiders hit again to make it 3-1 after pretty much the whole team had pushed forward.
Deploying a 3-3-3 system BUFC never gave up and were awarded a penalty which Whelan converted to make it 3-2.

All in all a disappointing result but a fantastic effort from everyone in the whiole squad. Man of the match was Daz but other players of note were Dave, Wynton, Gerry, JPiece, Whelan, Ewan, Iano and O’Neil.
