Match Report AA2 v Glebe 29/04/12

Barnstoneworth back to winning ways

It was a windy day and the venue was Heffron Park . Team moral was still high after the defeat to Maroubra and BUFC were looking to bounce back with a win. Hangovers gone from the raffle night the mood was good. It was Jonesy’s turn to wash the kits and he seemed to have done it in the local Chinese take away, no opposition players would be man marking us as the smell of sweet and sour chicken was potent.

The gaffa gathered the players together for the pre match team talk, he was mixing it up this week with the Christmas tree formation and the angel at the top of the three was going be Tool Shed ben. With only a few weeks left in Oz before his return to the mother country he was given a golden lifeline by the manager to score his first ever goal for BUFC.

The game kicked off and BUFC searched for an opener and had complete control of the game with the solid trio in defence keeping things quiet. About 30mins in a fine ball into the right channel, let in goal machine Bryn who struck the ball into the top corner, great turn great finish that mans a legend. A great early strike and just what we needed 1 -0.

Barnstoneworth continued to be impressive with some great tackles and headers were inexplicably pulled up for fouls by the ref! Ken was keeping things solid in defence and had recovered well from the injury scare the week before. Going into the half time break the team were confident but still smelling of Chinese food.

After a discussion between the gaffa and Framps and a kiss and make up fresh legs were brought in the midfield and up front.

Bryn was looking sharp and it was only a matter of time before another goal would come his way and 20mins in he does it again – great turn great finish that mans a legend – he could teach Ben how to score. 2-0 get in there BUFC were dominating the game and the ball was being kept on the deck as the gaffa wanted.

With ten minutes to go however glebe were getting more and more of the possession and the ball broke to the edge of the box where a deflected shot looped over the defence to the big dope up front who was standing 10 yards offside and he slides the ball past ken 2-1, unfair reflection on the game as BUFC had the run of it so far. This woke Barnstoneworth up and then were soon 3-1 up as Barry slipped in a goal with a few minutes to go following good work from Niall and Mac.

Final Score – Glebe Wanderers 1 – 3 Barnstoneworth.

Overall a good result on a windy day and bring on the dirty Russian showdown!!

Man of the match: Bryn Lawlor – Cogley in goal had a great game, but superbly finished move in the 2nd half following a wonder strike in the first means Lawlor takes out this week’s accolade!
